10 THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT THE TOTALLY SWEET NEW SAMSUNG GALAXY S8

10 THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT THE TOTALLY SWEET NEW SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 Could this be the iPhone killer you've been waiting for? Samsung On April 21st,  Samsung  will unleash their Galaxy S8 and S8+ on the world but we were able to count ourselves among the lucky few who pocketed the phone a week early. Using the Galaxy S8 as our primary phone, we put it through the ringer and were damn impressed with what Samsung has accomplished this time around. Here are 10 standout features of Samsung’s Galaxy S8, and why it’s setting a new standard for cell phones. 1. There's No Home Button The main difference and first thing you’ll notice about the S8 is that it’s without a physical home button. The S8 isn’t the first phone to do away with the home button but it is the best implementation of a software-based alternative that we’ve seen so far. We didn’t miss the home button on the S8 because the virtual one Samsung has built into the screen is intuitive...

Apple replaces iPad Air 2 with 9.7-inch iPad

The new iPad has an A9 chip and starts at $329

Apple has refreshed its iPad lineup, dropping the 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 and replacing it with a device simply called the iPad. The specs of the tablet remain largely the same as that of the Air 2, but with the old A8X chip replaced with the 64-bit A9, first seen in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The price of the iPad has also been dropped in comparison to its predecessor, with a 32GB Wi-Fi model starting at $329, and 32GB Wi-Fi and Cellular model going for $459.

In a press statement, Apple exec Phil Schiller said that customers would welcome the new “even more affordable” 9.7-inch iPad. “New customers and anyone looking to upgrade will love this new iPad for use at home, in school, and for work, with its gorgeous Retina display, our powerful A9 chip, and access to the more than 1.3 million apps designed specifically for it,” said Schiller.
We’ve also seen rumors that the company is planning three new iPad Pro devices this year, so expect more iPad changes in 2017.

The new 9.7-inch iPad does have some limitations, though. For a start, you can’t buy it in rose gold — that color option is only available for iPad Pro models. And its case is slightly larger than that of the iPad Air 2. Instead, it’s reverting to the dimensions of the original iPad Air. So, 7.5mm thick instead of 6.1mm thick, and 469 grams (Wi-Fi only) instead of 437 grams. The height and width remain the same.

The new iPad appeared on Apple’s store this morning, along with a couple other minor updates. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are now available in a red aluminum finish, and the iPhone SE now has storage options of 32GB and 128GB — double its previous specs. The company also announced a new app for making social videos.

Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge is still a great phone, and now great value thanks to the S8

Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge is still a great phone, and now great value thanks to the S8   SamsungGalaxy S7 Edge Photo In anticipation of Samsung’s shiny new Galaxy S8, I’ve gone back to using the smartphone it is replacing, the Galaxy S7 Edge, and what I’ve (re)discovered is a device still very much worthy of the flagship title. A year after its release, the S7 Edge remains one of the very best smartphones you can buy, and that’s only going to get better once its price gets dinged by the S8’s arrival this month. I really didn’t set out to re-review the S7 Edge; all I wanted was to remind myself what Samsung’s TouchWiz interface was like, so as to be able to best judge the company’s changes in the 2017 iteration. But then I started admiring the S7 Edge’s screen. And I got an appreciation for the battery life that comes from a class-leading 3,600mAh battery. By the time I’d taken a few decent photos with the camera, I was convinced sufficiently to swap my SIM card over from my ...
